Francesco Piemontesi is a pianist of exceptional refinement of expression, which is allied to consummate technical skill. Piemontesi remarks that Alfred Brendel, one of his most influential mentors, taught him ‘to love the detail of things’.

Highlights of Francesco Piemontesi’s 2018/19 season included debuts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra with Andrew Manze and the National Symphony Orchestra with Gianandrea Noseda, as well as recital engagements at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, Lincoln Centre, New York and Herbst Theatre, San Francisco. He also launched a major Schubert cycle at the 2018 Schubertiade in Austria.

Francesco Piemontesi is renowned for a special affinity with music of the Classical and Romantic periods and in tonight’s programme he will focus on two of the greatest Romantics of all, Schubert and Liszt, and the influence of one on the other. Liszt’s magnificent B minor sonata, which he composed shortly after he had finished transcribing Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy for two pianos and for piano and orchestra, follows Schubert in presenting four movements as one huge structure. Technically challenging and encompassing every mood, this promises a stupendous close to a fascinating evening.

Season Pass tickets to all remaining concerts in the 7th Series are available at a near 50% discount.
