The eldest of the Kanneh-Mason siblings, Isata was the first of the family to go to the Royal Academy of Music and the first to enter BBC Young Musician competition, where she reached the category final. In February of this year she was named winner of the prestigious Leonard Bernstein Award, the sponsor’s citation commenting:

‘Isata Kanneh-Mason has inspired us from the first note. Her expressive piano playing is captivating and leaves no doubt that she will soon be one of the great pianists.’

With her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy completed, Isata has embarked on a successful and increasingly busy concert career both as a solo artist and in performances with her siblings. Regular duo recitals with her brother Sheku have included appearances at Wigmore Hall, London, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris and an extensive ten-city North American tour.

Isata’s all-Clara Schumann disc, titled Romance, was released in July 2019. It entered the UK classical charts at No. 1 and was praised by Gramophone as ‘one of the most charming and engaging debuts’.
