The Amici Della Voce Octet & Chelys Consort of Viols
Directed by David Crown

The Amici Della Voce Octet are joined by the Chelys Consort of Viols for this wonderful programme of polychoral music. Featuring some of the most celebrated composers from the Renaissance including Guerrero, Schütz and others, and Victoria’s stunning 12-part Missa Laetatus Sum.

The Amici Della Voce Octet, based in Oxford, are a mixed-voice a cappella group specialising in performing a wide variety of repertoire from early Renaissance through to the present day. Founded and directed by David Crown, they draw on their extensive choral experience to deliver engaging and spirited concerts.

Recently described by Gramophone as having released ‘unquestionably the most beautiful recording of the Lachrimae’, Chelys have garnered a reputation for their faithful yet fresh interpretations of the consort repertoire. The members of Chelys are leading exponents of the viol, and their consort viols are strung entirely in gut which lends a particularly distinctive sound to the group. They have played at all the major UK Early Music Festivals, including York, Brighton, and Blackheath, appeared recently with Emma Kirkby at the Wigmore Hall, and are frequent guests on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
