Stile Antico – Toward the Dawn

SJE Arts

Two 75 minute performances, 6pm and 8.30pm

Our programme charts a course from twilight to sunrise, seductive and unsettling in equal measure. Taverner’s mighty Ave Dei patris filia stands at the end of a delicious sequence of sacred music, chansons and madrigals by English and Continental composers including Byrd, Lassus and Tallis. Thrill to the spine-tingling sounds of Allegri’s beloved Miserere and enter into the glorious sound world of Nico Muhly’s Gentle Sleep, a haunting setting of words by Shakespeare, written especially for the twelve voices of Stile Antico.

This event is supported by Tom Corran.

John Wilbye: Draw on sweet night
Robert White: Christe qui lux es IV
John Ward: Come sable night
William Byrd: Vigilate
Orlandus Lassus: Toutes le nuitz
Gregorio Allegri: Miserere mei
Nico Muhly: Gentle sleep
Thomas Tallis: O nata lux
Claudio Monteverdi: Ecco mormorar l’onde
John Taverner: Ave Dei Patris filia

‘Stile Antico represents the future of serious, unhyped, technically polished, stylistically attuned, and musically affecting choral performance.’
